the method behind the magic
Herbalism is equal parts: science, art, and ritual
Science
Between botany, chemistry, anatomy, and medical correspondences, herbalism can feel overwhelming. But that’s why you come to a professional ;)
I got my Herbalist Certification from the Bellebuono School for Herbal Medicine. The curriculum was rigorous, and rightly so. Holistic medicine is both gentle and powerful, so I put a lot of time into formulating each recipe.
Without getting into the nitty gritty, I want to run my process by you.
All of my formulas have these 5 key elements:
nutritive herbs
stress relief herbs
immune protectors
systematic support
symptomatic support
The reason why my formulas are layered is because healing is complex and I’m not interested in masking symptoms. The root word of “holistic” means whole.
Healing your WHOLE self is what I’m about
Art
Much like the culinary world, painting, music, and writing— no one likes flat, one-note art.
Individually beautiful things are made even more beautiful when accompanied by support.
My recipes are designed to have layers of flavour. Each formula has any mix/match of these notes:
floral
bitter
woody
spicy
fruity
When possible, in accordance with the healing properties, I get all those flavour packed into the blend to give each customer and complex experience with every sip.
Ritual
Any ritual worth its salt (see what I did there) has 5 components.
earth
air
fire
water
spirit
Sound familiar? Those are the point of the pentacle. Honouring the elements is crucial when doing any sort of magic because we can’t do anything without them. We are them and they are us.
Making tea, in and of itself, is a ritual.
You add the herbs to the teapot. Earth.
You light the stove to warm the water. Fire.
You hear the whistle of the kettle. Air.
You pour the water over the tea. Water.
You warm your hands on the cup. Spirit.
Any time I blend, package, or drink tea— I bring these thoughts with me and I bless each element and each customer.
